The global collective of designers, engineers and technical experts Arup, which pairs design and engineering with social purpose, came to the Warm Welcome Campaign with the offer of investment in IT equipment to a Warm Welcome Space that would benefit from it.
Warm Welcome was able to introduce Arup to Chilli Tuesdays, a Warm Welcome Space at King’s Church, Halifax, which offers a hot lunch to students at the nearby Calderdale College once a week. The story of Chilli Tuesdays is in itself fantastic – benefiting tens of students (74 at one peak) with a hot lunch and a place to chill out.
With support from Arup, Chilli Tuesdays have received four laptops to support young people visiting the space with college work and university applications.
Working closely with Paul Waterworth, Digital Specialist at Calderdale College, Chilli Tuesday leader Paul Blakey says: “Thank you to Warm Welcome for initial funding and, more importantly, the partnership and friendship in our Chilli Tuesday journey.”
Paul Wentworth says: “At Calderdale College, we’re proud of our two-year partnership with Chilli Tuesdays – an initiative that not only provides free, nutritious meals to our students but also creates a welcoming space to relax, connect, and unwind. Supporting student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, and this collaboration truly reflects our commitment to creating a caring and inclusive college community.”
And huge thanks too, to Arup for funding the laptops. You can read more about Arup’s work on the built environment as a force for social value and equity here.
