The Warm Welcome Inclusion Toolkit

Inclusion is at the heart of what Warm Welcome is all about. This Toolkit brings together practical resources, ideas, and guidance to help you create a space where everyone feels they belong. It has been developed in collaboration with Warm Welcome Spaces from across the network, shaped by your experiences, insights, and the incredible work already happening in communities every day.

Before you start

We encourage you to:

  1. Download the main Toolkit - this helps you to choose how and when to use the other resources available to you
  2. Self-led Review for Warm Welcome Spaces
  3. Do the Leader briefing (Essentials) - 2-hour session including how to respond to difficult situations. You can do this at your own pace. You can also:
  • Watch the video:
  • If you would like to, you can download the Powerpoint to deliver it for other leaders in your team
  • Facilitator notes which can help you deliver the training to leaders,
there is also a shorter version in the training section.
  • Download the scenarios worksheet to help you prepare for
    difficult conversations

Here are a range of resources referenced in our Inclusion Toolkit to support you in becoming more inclusive.

Communicating you’re inclusive

Posters and leaflets help make your space feel welcoming from the moment someone walks in, showing your commitment to inclusion straight away. This gives people a moment to pause and settle when they arrive somewhere new, where there can often be uncertainty about whether they will feel comfortable. It’s more than just a nice touch, it signals safety and reassurance, especially for those who may not have felt included in other space, or have experienced discrimination in the past.

Training and volunteer development

You will also find other useful training in our Guide to Inclusion training providers:

  • Guide to further training - trusted providers for Mental Health First Aid, safeguarding, and other specialist training for further training
Assessment and planning tools

Practical checklists and guides to help you review, plan, and improve.
